My Mayan Philosophy

In Lak'ech Ala K'in = I am you & you are me!

Our story to begin our new school year is, Where Are You From? Written by Yamile Saied Mendez. This story will help guide our own stories in getting to know each other.
It pays to IXL!!!

MR. PANCHAL ended the school-year 2019/2020 by completing over 30,000 correct questions on ixl.com.When I asked Mr. Panchal what he would do with his monetary reward he replied, " My father will match the amount I receive from Ma'am (Mrs. Baird), and then I will buy books to send to my old classmates in India." What an awesome young man!!!  I had to inform Mr. Panchal that he will have to match my reward, Bhagya's principal's reward, as well as Mrs. Musselwhite's reward. I can't wait to follow-up this student's story!

About the Teacher: I was born and raised in the beautiful country of Belize. In 1999, I continued my life's journey by immigrating with my three sons to my adopted home in Mississippi, USA . In a desire to give back to my new home and community, I decided to switch careers from being a businesswoman to a lifelong learner and teacher. While working as a paraprofessional at Senatobia Elementary School, I attended Northwest Community College in my hometown of Senatobia, and earned an associates in Elementary Education. I continued pursuing my studies at the University of Mississippi, and earned a Bachelor Degree in Elementary Education, followed by a Masters Degree in Modern Languages with emphasis in (TESOL) Teaching English to Students of Other Languages. I became a member of the Desoto County Schools in November of 2015, and am privileged to serve as an EL Specialist. Currently I serve two schools: Hernando Hills Elementary, and Oak Grove Central Elementary. My philosophy embraces the Mayan Philosophy," In Lak'ech Ala K'in", translated in English it simply means, " I am you~You are me!" When I look into your eyes I see my reflection. I treat you like I do myself. Thanks for letting me introduce myself.

Websites for Distance Learning

IXL.COM - Boys and girls, we have been using this website since August. 2019, Please continue to use this FABULOUS website! I am monitoring and will be rewarding my students in a big way. I'd like for you to do all practices under Vocabulary for your grade.

NewsELA is another great website for reading passages. You can login from our English Learners webpage in your Schoology account.

Wordscapes- Parents, wordscapes is a free app that you can download on a phone, iPad, or Laptop. I know that students love to play games and parents want something educational. This app should make both groups happy:)
