About the Teacher

Hi, I'm Mrs. Jessica Benson. I absolutely love teaching and I am so excited to be one of your child's teachers this year!

This is my 15th year in education and my 5th year at Greenbrook. Prior to coming to Greenbrook, I served as the Birth-PreK Director of a non-profit foundation. I've taught Pre-K at Quitman County Elementary School in Lambert, MS and Kindergarten at R.H. Bearden Elementary School in Sumner, MS. I love teaching K-2 students!

I earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Child and Adolescent Development from California State University, Fullerton and a Masters of Education degree in Elementary Education from Delta State University. I also achieved National Board Certification in Early Childhood in 2013 and renewed in 2022.

I am originally from La Habra, California and have lived in Mississippi for over fourteen years. I am married to a teacher and together we have two young boys and two rescue dogs.

🏡 Links for At-Home Learning:

Boom Learning: We use Boom Learning weekly in class. Students can sign in using their username and password. They can use Boom Learning on a computer/laptop or on a smart phone/tablet using the Boom Cards app. They have access to a variety of activities that I have assigned to them. If your child doesn't remember his/her username or password or you need any help using Boom Learning, please email me or send a text through School Status.

Arcademics: Arcade + Academics = Fun Learning! This website has lots of educational games to play for free for students in grades 1-6.

Reading Bear: Reading Bear is a completely free beginning reading program that teaches phonics and vocabulary. Students can complete the interactive lessons at their own pace. Reading Bear explicitly teaches over 1200 words, so it is great for young students and anyone at home who wants to learn or practice English.

Typing Club: Typing Club is a free website that allows students to practice typing in a game format. They can earn points and badges as they practice their typing skills! Just click the link and then click "Get Started" to start practicing.

Unite for Literacy: Unite for Literacy is a totally free website that has hundreds of books to read. The books are all in English but can be narrated into dozens of languages, so students can listen to a book in their home language. The books have beautiful photographs and celebrate different cultures and languages!

Raz-Kids: Raz-Kids is a website that every student at Greenbrook can access! Raz-Kids has over 800 books that students can read as well as quizzes about what they've read. There are even books in Spanish! If you need your child's login information, reach out to their classroom teacher.

ABCya: ABCya is a free website that has over 400 games for students in PreK-6th grade! In addition to games to play, the website also has lots of videos demonstrating how to make things like origami butterflies, 3D cubes, and superhero straws. No account needed!
